Bay Leaf

The leaves are often used to flavor soups, stews, braises and pates in Mediterranean cuisine. The bay leaf was highly regarded by the ancient Greeks and Romans who considered it as a symbol of wisdom, peace and protection. The bay laurel tree originated in Asia Minor (area around modern day Turkey), and spread to the Mediterranean and other countries with suitable climates.
