Native to the Mediterranean region and West Asia, mint is named after a Grecian myth. In the story, Menthe, originally a nymph, angered the wife of Hades who turned her into a lowly plant! Hades, unable to reverse the spell, was able to make the situation less unpleasant by giving Menthe a sweet scent, which would perfume the air when her leaves were stepped on, thus giving rise to the name of the aromatic herb mint.
