Broccoli

Originally brought to the United States by Italian immigrants and popularized in the 1920s, broccoli is now one of the most prevalently consumed vegetables in American cuisine. Broccoli has a rich history outside of North America, as it was affectionately enjoyed in the Mediterranean since the beginning of the Roman Empire—it was so admired that the son of Emperor Tiberius gorged himself upon the vegetable until he was sick.  Broccoli is high in vitamin C, as well as dietary fiber; a high intake of broccoli has been found to reduce the risk and continued growth of aggressive cancer..
